Marissa Arterberry is an artist who works in watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media. Her colorful paintings explore African diasporic spirituality, fantasy, and escapism. 
Born in 1981 in San Jose, California, Marissa has been exhibiting work since she was 19, when she started live painting at festivals and venues around San Jose with Pacific Art Collective. She went on to earn her Bachelors' Degree in painting from San Francisco State University in 2007. Galleries Marissa has exhibited in include SOMArts Gallery in San Francisco, Around the Coyote Gallery in Chicago, and Skylight Gallery in Brooklyn.
Marissa currently lives and works in Berkeley, California with her two children Phoenix and Sage. In addition to art, her passions include Afro Brazilian dance, tracing her family's lineage, and helping kids find their next favorite book at the school library where she works.
